Together Every Neighbourhood Develops (TEND) is committed to protecting your privacy while fostering public accountability. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data in accordance with the Nigerian Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.

1. What Data We Collect

We collect information necessary to route civic issues to the correct authorities and ensure system integrity:

  • Report Data (Public): Location (GPS coordinates), photos you upload, descriptions of infrastructure issues, and categories.
  • Account Data (Private): Your full name, email address, phone number (optional), and LGA/State preferences.
  • Technical Data: IP addresses and basic device information for security and abuse prevention.

2. Why We Collect It

Your data is used entirely to facilitate civic engagement:

  • To route your reports to the correct municipal or state agency.
  • To send you updates regarding the resolution status of submitted reports.
  • To build aggregate, anonymised scores representing agency performance.
  • To verify you are a genuine citizen to prevent spam and platform manipulation.

3. Who Can See Your Data

Public Infrastructure Data: All infrastructure reports (photos, location, description, dates, resolving agency) are public records. This is necessary for transparency and journalistic use.

Personal Data: Your name, email, and phone number are strictly private. We do not display your name on public reports, nor do we sell or share this information with third-party tracking or advertising companies.

4. How Long We Keep It

  • Infrastructure Reports: Kept indefinitely as part of the public historical record unless they violate our moderation policies.
  • Account Profiles: Retained as long as your account is active. If you request deletion, it will be removed permanently within 30 days.

5. Your Rights Under NDPA 2023

As a Nigerian citizen, you retain full rights over your data:

  • The Right to Access: You can download a complete copy of all data TEND holds about you at any time.
  • The Right to Rectification: You can correct any inaccurate information in your profile settings.
  • The Right to Erasure: You can request immediate deletion of your account. We will anonymise your past submissions to preserve the public record while removing all ties to your identity.
